To encourage private firms to hire more senior citizens, lawmakers have filed a bill seeking to increase the amount of tax incentives enjoyed by private companies that employ elderly citizens. Of the 1,854 job seekers who registered onsite, 177 got interviewed by the employers participating in the job fair. Those who were hired on the spot include cashier, sales representative, and baggers. Larry Barn Baltazar, an operator for PESO Information System, said the 1,854 registered job seekers were onsite. He added that they have yet to count those who got interviewed and hired online. 25-year-old Iselmae Malode, from Barangay 76-A Bucana, was among the job seekers hired on the spot. She said that she did not expect it but was very happy that she finally landed a job. “Taud-taod na ko nangita ug trabaho kaso wala gani response gikan sa mga gipang-apply-an nako, hantod sa nakita nako sa Facebook ning Virtual Job Fair sa First Congressional District, ni rehistro ko online,” Malode said. Malode expressed her appreciation to First Congressional District Representative Paolo “Pulong” Duterte and to all who made the virtual job fair possible, as she was given the chance to work. 31-year-old Jake Galacio Gabiola, a resident from Buhangin District, recalled how he got lost while going to the Job Fair venue. He said it was all worth it after he got accepted for a job he applied. “Nag-alanganin pa gani ko muadto kay kini bitaw naa pa ta ginaatiman sa panimalay. Pero akoang giisip sab kinahanglan makaadto ko sa job fair aron makakita nako ug trabaho,” Gabiola said. The employers who participated in the event were as follows: Metrol Cleaners, Steel Asia, Davao Manpower Incorporated, Sutherland, Franklin Baker, Ana's Breeders, Vicente Lao Construction, Gaisano Mall of Davao, Agri Exim Global, and Jathnier. Rep. Duterte said that they utilized an online platform to provide opportunities and assistance to those who are still unemployed and those who lost their jobs, following the COVID-19 pandemic. Lorraine Grace Ugsang, of the DOLE-11 Davao City Field Office, Employment Facilitation Program, said that their office still has upcoming job fair for those who are still seeking a job. All they need to do is to keep posted. Duterte’s office organized the Virtual Job Fair in coordination with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Davao City’s Public Employment Service Office (PESO). The First Congressional District Office recognized the resilience of the employers, employees, and job seekers amid the pandemic. They thanked their partner agencies for their support of the event and the Holy Child College of Davao for offering their facilities as the venue for the opening of the virtual job fair. Bacalso said the new facilities would be a center for various community gatherings and services, including awareness drives, assemblies, and other public greetings and activities of the barangay and other local government agencies. “Without these facilities and roads, Langub would still be in a difficult situation. The infrastructure provided by Congressman Pulong has greatly helped many people here. I am so happy about such progress in our barangay,” Bacalso said in vernacular. Bacalso said the barangay, whose roads are divided into seven separate ways, has around 4,334 population. Rodrigo, a namesake of his grandfather, urged the barangay to take care of the infrastructure. As he thanked the barangay for its endless support, he also assured that the First Congressional District will continue the development in the First District and assist all the city’s residents. Pastor Ricky Anrisio said during the consecration of the barangay hall that the progress in Langub would not be possible without the great endeavor of Rep. Duterte and his office. The Tesda Training for Work Scholarship Program (TWSP) aims to continue filling up the skills gaps and job requirements of priority industries and sectors with high employment demand, improving the reach of quality TVET to the grassroots. Tesda encourages technical-vocational institutions to offer the program with higher qualifications catering to in-demand industry requirements. This shall support the government’s thrust of rapid, inclusive, and sustained economic growth. Rep. Duterte’s office is seeking beneficiaries of the program with the following qualifications: (1) must be eighteen (18) years old at the time the scholarship finishes the Tesda’s training program, and (2) must be a high school graduate.
