DAVAO CITY — First District Representative Paolo Z. Duterte is set to bring a wave of nostalgia and fun with “Dula Kaniadto: Pinoy Games” in celebration of International Youth Day this Tuesday, August 12, alongside the colorful festivities of Kadayawan 2025.
With the theme “Reviving Filipino Culture Through Authentic Traditional Games,” the event aims to reconnect today’s youth with the country’s rich cultural past by celebrating traditional Filipino street and backyard games — the kind that once defined childhood in every barangay.
“This is more than just a day of games,” Rep. Duterte said. “It’s about honoring our roots and passing down the simple joys and lessons of our childhood to the next generation.
These games tell the story of who we are as Filipinos.” Open to youth aged 12 and up, the one-day event will run from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with on-site registration starting at 7:00 a.m. and the program kicking off at 8:00 a.m.
Participants from all 54 barangays in the first district will each send 20 delegates, while 10 slots are reserved for walk-in participants — a nod to the event’s inclusive and community-first spirit. Participants aged 12 to 17 must bring a signed waiver.
All players will receive a free event shirt, loot bag, and complimentary porridge and water. They are also encouraged to bring their own packed meals.
The games lineup features 12 iconic Filipino favorites that blend athleticism, laughter, and camaraderie: Palo Sebo Takyan Kadang Bagol Patintero Pukpok Palayok Sack Race Dakpanay Baktin Basketball Shooting Luksong Tinik Tug of War Lumba Ligid (participants must bring their own tires) Syatong Held alongside the Kadayawan Festival, the event serves as a lively platform to showcase youth energy, athleticism, and cultural appreciation.
The merging of Kadayawan and International Youth Day amplifies the spirit of community, resilience, and pride in Filipino heritage. “Dula Kaniadto” hopes to bring back the excitement of neighborhood play, reminding everyone — kids and grown-ups alike — of the days when fun was free, friendships were formed on dusty streets, and joy came from a simple game of syatong.
For inquiries or to join, participants may coordinate with their barangay or head directly to the event site on August 12.
