MANILA, Philippines — Davao City 1st District Rep. Paolo Duterte on Thursday asked colleagues to pass when it resumes its session a bill that would regulate motorcycle-for-hire operations and lift the cap on allowed riders for companies to ensure the safety of commuters.

Duterte cited the need to pass House Bill No. 4470, or the proposed Motorcycles-for-Hire Act, which seeks to streamline the application of companies involved in such businesses, registration of riders, and the creation of standards and specifications for motorcycles used in these operations.

The institutionalization of this strategy is underscored under House Bill (HB) No. 500, which was filed by Duterte, along with Benguet Rep. Eric Yap, and ACT-CIS Partylist Rep. Edvic Yap.

“Poor and far flung communities should get a say on what should be done to alleviate poverty in their areas since they know what’s happening on the ground and what problems need urgent action. This is the true spirit of inclusive growth,” Duterte said.

Providing free legal assistance to men and women in uniform who are facing charges in connection with the performance of their duties will help boost morale and productivity among the ranks of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), the Philippine National Police (PNP) and other law enforcement agencies, according to Davao City 1st District Representative Paolo Duterte.

Duterte said the recent approval by the House of Representatives on third and final reading of House Bill (HB) 6509 is a step closer in providing this legal protection to “uniformed personnel who are wrongfully accused and charged, especially when their job involves having to expose high-profile criminal syndicates.”
