Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte has filed a measure that seeks to send to jail “deadbeat” parents found to have deliberately and repeatedly neglected their obligation of providing child support.

Under House Bill (HB) 4807, Duterte proposed that parents with recurrent offenses of failing to send financial support to their child or children be punished with imprisonment of two to four years, depending on the discretion of the courts. They should also be made to pay a fine ranging from P100,000 to P300,000.

A BILL has been filed in the House of Representatives seeking to create a program that will assist solo parents in locating and filing cases against absentee partners who do not pay child support.

House Bill 4807 seeks to establish the National Child Support Program, which would impose fines of up to P300,000 and at least two years of jail time on parents who fail to provide financial support to their children.

Deadbeat parents or those who willfully and repeatedly fail to support their children should be punished with fines, prison time, or both, a lawmaker said Tuesday.

Naghain ng panukala si Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte at tatlo pang mambabatas upang makulong at pagmultahin ang mga magulang na hindi nagbibigay ng sustento sa kanilang anak o mga anak.

Sa ilalim ng panukalang Child Support Responsibility Act (House Bill 4807) na akda ni Duterte, Benguet Rep. Eric Yap, ACT-CIS Representatives Edvic Yap at Jeffrey Soriano, ang mga magulang na paulit-ulit na hindi magbibigay ng sustento ay maaaring makulong ng dalawa hanggang apat na taon at pagmumultahin ng P100,000 hanggang P300,000.

Parents who deliberately and repeatedly neglect their obligation of providing child support should be sent to jail.
