3 House solons propose P10B ‘cancer fund’ for indigent patients

THREE lawmakers have proposed the establishment of a P10 billion fund to finance the treatment and care of indigent cancer patients.

Davao City 1st District Representative Paolo Duterte, Benguet Rep. Eric Yap, and ACT-CIS Party-list Rep. Edvic Yap said their proposal, as outlined in House Bill (HB) No. 7687 aims to strengthen the existing cancer assistance fund mandated under the National Integrated Cancer Control Act under the Republic Act (RA) No. 11215.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 29) — A proposed measure was filed at the House of Representatives seeking to provide subsidies to children of qualified indigent farmers who will pursue a degree program related to agriculture in state universities and colleges (SUCs).

The Philippine Statistics Authority said in its October 2022 Labor Force Survey that there has been a continuous employment drop in the agricultural sector since 2020.

Based on year-on-year comparison, the sector had its share of total employment decline from 24.5% (9.7 million) in October 2020 to 24.6% (10.77 million) in October 2021. That further dropped to 22.5% (10.60 million) in October 2022.

Additional incentives for the dependents of indigent farmers have been proposed in the House of Representatives amid a huge decline in the number of employed workers in the agriculture and forestry sector.

Based on the most recent Labor Force Survey released by the state-run Philippine Statistics Authority in December 2022, those employed in the agriculture and forestry sector decreased by a whopping 197,000 from October 2021 to October 2022.

This marks the biggest decline in sectors which posted lesser numbers in terms of employed persons. The same data showed that the agriculture and forestry sector also lost 511,000 employed workers from July 2022 to October 2022 alone.

Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte together with two other lawmakers filed a measure seeking to incentivize young Filipinos to pursue careers in the field of agriculture.

Pulong extends aid to aspiring doctors, lawyers

ASPIRING doctors and lawyers, as well as displaced workers and calamity victims, were among the 36,000 beneficiaries of the various forms of assistance extended by the office of Davao City 1st District Representative Paolo “Pulong” Duterte from October 2022 to March of this year.

During this six-month period, Duterte also initiated the implementation of 37 infrastructure projects in Davao City, which include the construction of a fire station, multi-purpose buildings, revetments to prevent coastal erosion, roads, evacuation centers, and water and drainage systems.
