New bill, same problem: Lawmakers bat for more prison facilities to solve jail congestion
MANILA, Philippines — In a bid to ease the prolonged strain felt by persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) in the country’s limited jail facilities, House lawmakers have introduced a measure creating new penal facilities in 11 regions.
By adding to the seven existing correctional facilities in the country, the bill aims to accommodate and improve the living conditions of the country’s increasing number of PDLs, many of whom stay in overstuffed jails while undergoing or awaiting trial.

Substandard, crowded prisons lamented
TWO lawmakers have expressed concern over the substandard and inadequate penal facilities in the country, a reason why they are pushing for a measure seeking for additional penitentiaries.
In filing House Bill 8071, Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte and Benguet Rep. Eric Yap pointed out the over congestion and subhuman conditions of prisoners.
They stressed that an additional penitentiary system in the country will provide prisoners decent and humane accommodation.

Solons seeks to build more prisons to decongest Bilibid, other jails

Duterte noted that dialysis treatment for Chronic Kidney Disease Stage 5 (CKD 5) or end-stage kidney disease remains costly for most Filipinos, especially for poor patients.
Duterte, together with Benguet Rep. Eric Yap and ACT-CIS Partylist Rep. Edvic Yap, authored House Bill (HB) 7841 which seeks the establishment of dialysis wards for poor patients in public hospitals.

Cong Duterte, 2 others bat for free dialysis to poor patients
Davao City 1st district Rep. Paolo Duterte has led the filing of a bill that requires all government hospitals to set up dialysis wards and provide free treatment to poor patients.
“The cost of medical treatment for kidney disease remains exorbitant—beyond the reach of ordinary patients," Duterte and the other authors of House Bill (HB) No.7841 said in a statement Tuesday, June 6.

Over 3k Tupad beneficiaries get salary payout from 1st Congressional District Office, DOLE-11
DAVAO CITY – The First Congressional District Office noted recently that over 3,000 identified beneficiaries from the first district received their payout on the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) in Davao City.
According to the office of Rep. Paolo Z. Duterte, 5,430 individuals applied for the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) program. The latter conducts the assessment after profiling the applicants completed by the First Congressional District Office.
