MANILA, Philippines – Upang lumawak ang lateral entry program ng Philippine National Police (PNP), isang panukalang batas ang inihain sa Malaking Kapulungan ng Kongreso upang maibilang ang mga de-kalibreng technical professions sa recruitment.
Isinulong ng mga mambabatas sa pangunguna ni Davao City 1st District Rep. Paolo Duterte na maisama sa dapat ma-recruit ng PNP ang mga aeronautical engineers, molecular biologists, psychologists, information technology (IT) experts at iba pang propesyon na mataas ang kasanayang teknikal upang mas mapatatag ang kapabilidad nito sa pagharap sa iba’t ibang pagsubok sa pagpapatupad ng batas at kaligtasan ng publiko.

Bill allows lateral entry of professionals in PNP
A bill filed at the House of Representatives mandates the Philippine National Police (PNP) to recruit professionals such as aeronautical engineers, molecular biologists psychologists, information technology (IT) experts and other professionals with highly technical skills to strengthen the unit’s capability in meeting new challenges to law enforcement and public safety.
House Bill (HB) 7686 filed by Reps. Paolo Duterte of Davao City, Eric Yap of Benguet and Edvic Yap of and ACT-CIS party-list proposes to institutionalize the expansion of the PNP’s lateral entry program by amending Section 33 of Republic Act 6975.

House bill seeks to let PNP hire technical experts to boost capabilities
MANILA, Philippines — Three lawmakers have filed House Bill (HB) No. 7686 that would allow the Philippine National Police (PNP) to recruit experts from technical fields that will strengthen its law enforcement capabilities.
The bill was filed last March 22 by Davao City 1st District Rep. Paolo Duterte, Benguet Rep. Eric Yap, and ACT-CIS party-list Rep. Edvic Yap. As of now, it’s with the House Committee on Public Order and Safety.

PSA: Nearly 1 million child laborers in 2021
MANILA, Philippines — There are nearly a million working children in the country in 2021, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority.
“According to the PSA, the total number of working children considered engaged in child labor was estimated at 935,120 in 2021. This was higher than the 596,919 reported number of child laborers in 2020,” Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte said in a statement.
Duterte also noted that “across regions, Northern Mindanao had the highest share to the country’s child laborers at 14.8 percent as of October 2021.”

Increase in child labor cases alarms Cong Duterte
