DAVAO CITY – Office of the First Congressional District Representative Paolo Duterte distributed additional cash assistance and relief goods to 129 fire victims in Barangay Leon Garcia in Agdao on Friday afternoon. Leon Garcia is among the 46 barangays under the second district of the city.
Of the 129 total affected families, 66 are house owners, 33 are sharers, 16 are renters, 12 are boarders and two are caretakers. All victims are temporarily sheltered at Leon Garcia Elementary School.
Duterte’s office distributed cash assistance and more relief goods containing five kilos of rice, water container, and blanket to the families affected by the fire incident that transpired on September 3 at around 2 a.m.
Each house owners received P10,000 cash aid, P6,000 for sharers, P5,000 for renters, P3,000 for boarders, and P2,000 for caretakers. Duterte said that “Kita tanan Davaoeños, mao kita dapat magtinabangay (We, Davaoeños, should be helping each other).”
Aside from giving cash assistance and relief goods to fire victims, the office also distributed face shields to the barangay officials and purok leaders of the Leon Garcia, which is useful as they continue to ensure peace and order in their barangay.
In the initial report from the Davao City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), around 60 houses and seven classrooms of the Emmanuel Garcia Elementary School were gutted down by the fire leaving the victims homeless at the moment.
Barangay Leon Garcia chief Lita Impis, on behalf of the victims, expressed her gratitude to the first congressional district office, especially to the young congressman, for their response to the needs of the affected families.
Duterte’s office earlier distributed food packs containing three kilos of rice, six canned goods, and three noodles, including face masks, to the victims. Despite the incident, the affected families remain positive, following the support they received from the government and other agencies.
The district office has been giving food packs not only to its constituents but also to other areas of Davao where people are also in need of assistance like the victims affected by the fire incident and other emergency incidents.
