Rep. Duterte, with the Anti-Crime and Terrorism Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Partylist Representative Eric Go Yap, filed the House Bill 7012 or “The Scholarship Grants to Public School Teachers and Educational Cash Assistance to their Children in Tertiary Education” on June 17, 2020.

The bill aims to offer scholarship grants to teachers to enrol in graduate and post-graduate studies to better improve their craft. Rep. Duterte said that under the bill, teachers who avail the scholarship may also apply the same for their children in state universities and colleges.

Rep. Duterte said that they are doing their best to lift the social and economic burden from the teachers by granting them with opportunities to hone their expertise in a specialized area of study and by providing their children in tertiary education with educational assistance.

“Rest assured that we, [together with Representative Yap], are looking into more ways to uplift the lives of our school teachers to show our gratitude and appreciation for their hard work,” Rep. Duterte said.

Rep. Yap also said that the teachers have shown their dedication in educating students in the country notwithstanding the ongoing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. He added that the bill has been referred to the Committee on Higher Education (CHED).
